The Sydney bi-lingual poet Mihaela Cristescu’s name is key to a literary event that is becoming an annual occasion in Sydney. In 2014, the State Library of New South Wales hosted "Four Bilingual Romanian Writers in Sydney" and again in 2015, "Letters of Poetry".
This year we invite you to "Romanian Rhythm in Sydney", on Saturday 26th March (11:00 am, Dixson Room, Mitchell Wing).
Cristescu’s new volume of poetry, "The IT Solander”, will be launched by Romanian writer and filmmaker, Anamaria Beligan. The event will be opened by State Library representative Oriana Acevedo and Carol Amos, President of NEW Writers’ group.
Interesting guests again this year – reading their own works or from Cristescu’s new volume– will include our friend and collaborator, poet Thomas Thorpe and also Sue Crawford (Editor ZineWest) who will introduce NEW Writers’ Group members: Sue Chaumon, Danny Draper, Norm Fairbairn, J. Anne deStaic and Patricia Weerakoon.
Romanian poet and journalist, Gelu Vlasin, author of six volumes of poetry, sends regards from Cervantes Saavedra’s country and a few of his new poems as recited by Loredana Tudor-Tomescu.
In an interplay of poetry and puppetry, Loredana Tudor-Tomescu will also read from her future volume,"Iubirea pe stil vechi / Old Style Love", with Artistic Director and founder of Horizon Theatre Sydney, Maddy Slabacu (director / master puppeteer), Shabnam Tavakol (actress/puppeteer) and Anamaria Beligan (reading from "Lucianism(e)"series).
Another attraction of the morning will be music: vocalists Felicity Amos and Celia Milazzo will offer their rendition of well-loved Romanian songs. During refreshments, we will hear Marius Matache’s music album, "Hoinar prin Piata Matache" – lyrics by Loredana Tudor-Tomescu, (Colindul taramului pierdut/ Carols for a lost realm , Colind pentru prieteni / Carols for my friends, Ultima ninsoare (Dragoste la bucatarie) / The last snow (Love in the kitchen ).
Hoping that this presentation has made you curious enough, we look forward to seeing you on 26th March, 11:00 am at the State Library of NSW, Dixson room, Mitchell Wing for the third edition of the artistic-literary event organised on the initiative of Mihaela Cristescu in partnership with the Romanian-Australian Cultural Society Southern Cross Inc., State Library of NSW and NEW Writers’ Group Incorporated.
