For centuries, our nation's traditions have been preserved in the memory of the people in different stories, songs and legends. Some were transmitted orally, others were sculptured into rocks, bringing evidence over centuries about this industrious, brave and passionately in love people. Because today is the Feast of Love, I tell you the legend of Dragobete which, according to the elders, was the son of the lovely woman Dochia by name. About it she was believed to be the daughter of Decebalus and ... that even Trajan, the Roman emperor wanted her as a wife. Who saw with blond hair in braids braided that hung back, eyes as blue as sky, with white face as the marble and red lips with strawberry scents, remained stunned by her beauty. She lived in a hut at the foot of the mountain and has a flock of sheep and went daily to graze them in meadows with fresh grass.
One day, the magic of delicate colours of the flowers and their intoxicating scents, she slept in the dark on the lake shore in which the sheep water. It was a moonlit night and Dochia slept on a bed of flowers, smiling in her sleep. Around midnight, when the girl was sleeping taken from the bottom of the mountain a cloud of fog rose and covered the moonlight and wrapped in a tender the hug body of the Virgin asleep ... The next day, when she opened her eyes, the sun was at noon. Awakened as from a long sleep, looked around her, and everything seemed changed. On the lips ... still wearing delicate fragrance of a kiss. Not knowing what's wrong with her, looked in the lake mirror and the forest began to roar and a tender sound of a flute voice was heard in the distance ...
Life continued its normal course, but Dochia did not know what happens to her body, which changes from day to day .... At 9 months, the occurrence of fog, on February 24th, Dragobete was born. Fate and godmothers have been four fairies: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each of them brought in what they thought was more beautiful and useful in life. Spring sowed in heart the love giving him flowers freshness and youth without old age. Summer is not far behind and gave the child the warmth of love, fulfillment of love and sweetness of fruit. Autumn Fairy brought him a flute that would keep him company, but also to cheer on people's songs. Finally, Winter godmother takes a garment woven with shimmering white diamonds. As girdle, it gave a red belt ... sewing with snowy white pearls. The coat was designed so that the lad grew with remaining white as snow, no matter how many times it would be worn.
At 19 years , Dragobete had his hair as black as the night and green eyes as silky grass on the mountain, his word was as sweet as honey and his kiss burnt like coals. He was a jolly fellow who played the flute and loved girls who looked at him like a god. The virgins who met him and felt his gaze enchanted, sometimes fiery kiss, they seemed sure he had come from another realm. All the elders said to have been a spark of truth in the assertion of girls. Because nobody knew who his father is, it was rumored that he was conceived of the Mountain Spirit even during copulation with Dochia, when she turned into mist ... The truth is that time no one ever saw and did not hear the whistle song.
On the top of the mountain, in a cave whose walls grew, „Stone Flowers" in white, blue, gray, pink and purple bunches , there lived a wise old man. While feeding the little sheep in the meadow where he had been conceived, the boy found himself face to face with the wise who told the name and urged him to follow. Astonishment, surprise, Dragobete followed without saying a word. Becoming his apprentice, he learned the secret knowledge of reading in the secret book of Nature. Thus, he recognized medicinal plants, he knew to speak to birds, understood the magical signs of the forest, not being any longer afraid of wild beasts.
When he returned to the world, he was received with open arms. More than ever, he stired love in the girls heart , traveling at the speed of thought and appeared where he was called ... The men agreeded him , too. Nobody knew the secret that makes men like him and not be jealous of him. That is, until one day, when an old man revealed the secret. When he was a lad, on the evening of February 23rd Dragobete appeared in a dream to thre young ready to marry and taught them the secrets of love. Everything was done under oath ... The old man broke the silence, since he was over 100 years, and deemed no longer under oath.
Legend says that after hundreds of years of life on earth, while the learned to love the people of these lands, and teaching was transmitted from father to son and mother to daughter, Spirit Mountain called the child at its breast. At the request of the father, Mother of God transformed into a magical plant called Stormy. And in the third millennium, some girls even women of this people still believe in the magic of Stormy. They carry at the breast a silk purse where they takeStormy. It's a sign of appreciation and remembrance of who was Dragobete, "god" Love for the Romanians.
Are you wondering what did happen to Dochia? The bad people story that would become a stubborn old woman, obstinate. They say that in March she put nine coats on her and climbed the mountain with the sheep flock . Because it was hot, she began to give up coats , one by one, and a frosty night turned to stone with her flock. Others, wiser, argue that Dochia went to her beloved Ceahlău Mount and asked him to turn her to stone ... to be together forever.
